What Is LEGO® Serious Play®?
LEGO® Serious Play® (sometimes called LSP) is a creative, hands‑on method that helps people explore ideas, emotions and challenges through play, metaphor and storytelling.
LEGO® Serious Play® works because it gives people a different way to think and communicate. Instead of relying on words alone, participants use their hands to build models that express ideas, emotions and experiences in a more open and imaginative way. This helps people access deeper insights and share perspectives they might not otherwise voice. Different facilitators have different ways of working with the tool so workshops can vary in structure and practice.
The method creates a level playing field. Everyone builds, everyone shares, and everyone is heard, which makes it especially powerful for groups where confidence, hierarchy or communication barriers can get in the way. The bricks act as a neutral, playful medium that reduces pressure and encourages genuine contribution.
By externalising thoughts into physical models, participants can explore challenges safely, reflect more deeply and see connections they may have missed. This combination of play, metaphor and storytelling supports wellbeing, strengthens relationships and helps teams make sense of complex issues together.
